Current Surgical Approach


There are two surgical approaches to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Open Carpal Tunnel Release
Closed or Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery.
 
The purpose of these surgeries is to open the Carpal Tunnel by cutting the "roof " of the tunnel, The Carpal Ligament.
The main problems with the surgery are:
"Scar tenderness" 62% of the patients as per the Cochran review.
Recurrence of symptoms including tingling , numbness , pain
Weakness in the hand. Even though patients do show increase in strength post surgery, they still show some degree of weakness.
